Retriever Roasters
Real Coffee for Real People
For many folks, a cup of coffee is the liquid version of fast food--a mundane morning eye-opener wolfed down with a commercial donut or such. Not at Retriever Roasters. We are real coffee people who select the highest quality coffee beans from the best suppliers and hand roast them on our premises in small quantities. We grind fresh beans for each carafe of coffee we make and only sell coffee that’s freshly brewed. We do these things because we believe that a cup of coffee, espresso, cappuccino, latte or other espresso drink is more than beverage—it’s an experience to be savored.

What people are saying about Retriever Roasters:
"Retriever Roasters in Catskill NY is one of the best around – exquisite roasts, fantastic value and fanatical passion."
"I am a coffee afficionado. I seek out the small roasters of my home, and this small coffee shop has the finest coffee roaster in New York State. He understands the necessity of lightly roasting the quality bean, and his selection of teas is also impressive. For 100 miles around, there is none better. Call ahead and he'll have your coffee freshly roasted and ready to go."
"Retriever Roasters is a charming escape. What a great place! I can escape my kids for a little while, great coffee, very comfortable seating, gorgeous set up and nice people. From one fellow dog lover to another, I think the tribute is so sweet!"
"I also want to throw in a mention of Retriever Roasters (394 Main St., Catskill, 943-5858), where owner Robert Lugo not only knows his coffee but also served me the finest cappuccino I've tasted, turning what was meant to be a grab-a-cup-and-go into a pleasant half-hour at one of the coffeehouse's tables." - B.A. Nilsson, long time
food critic, Metroland
"Coffee Heaven - Simply the best coffee, cappuccino, espresso, tea, etc. I've experienced in upstate. Also can buy custom roasts done right on the spot - Ethiopian, Sumatra, organics, stuff you just don't get everyday, and at good prices. It opens 8ish and closes usually by 2:30 and isn't open weekends or holidays. But, the coffee is roasted on premises and is prepared to perfection by the owner/proprietor and the atmosphere is Woodstock circa 69 and Portland circa 94 blended into a quirky Washington Irving matrix. Expect bluegrass, blues, The Dead, Dylan or other folk filtering over the speakers. Cozy wood beams and tables make it relaxing to hang. Perfect rest stop if you're headed up to Albany or up to Hunter to ski. One of the best kept secrets in this cool little village -"
